David de Gea to snub lucrative Saudi Arabia deal to stay at Manchester United
Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea has decided to snub a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia to extend his stay at the Old Trafford side, according to talkSPORT (h/t Metro).
The Spaniard’s current contract with the Red Devils is set to expire at the end of the season. To that end, the veteran goalkeeper will become a free agent in the coming weeks if he does not sign a new deal at the Manchester-based club.
However, United have already agreed fresh terms with the 32-year-old. All that remains is for him to put pen to paper. While the former Atletico Madrid star has a proposal from the Middle East, his preference is to stay at the Old Trafford side.
In the summer of 2011, the Red Devils signed De Gea. Since then, the shot-stopper has been ever-present in our starting lineup.
Over the last two seasons, the 32-year-old has been in fine form for United. However, while Erik ten Hag has trusted the veteran goalkeeper in between the sticks, he has looked uncomfortable at times.
The Dutch manager is seemingly keen on playing the ball out from the back. In that regard, the Spaniard leaves a lot to be desired, often making mistakes.
In the 2022/23 campaign, De Gea remained the gaffer’s first choice in all competitions. However, the former Ajax head coach did not have a lot of options in the goalkeeping department, with Tom Heaton and Jack Butland as the backups.
Dean Henderson is also still on the Red Devils’ books. However, the English national looks set to depart for Nottingham Forest in the upcoming transfer window.

Buying a new quality shot-stopper will evidently cost a lot in today’s market. Therefore, for now, it will be wise to keep a hold of De Gea and make sure that clubs in Saudi Arabia are unable to entice him.
