Manchester United ‘realistic contenders’ for West Ham United captain Declan Rice
Declan Rice, who plays for Premier League rivals West Ham United, is a top target for Manchester United next summer, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are ‘realistic contenders’ in the race for the England international’s signature. In the upcoming transfer window, the Old Trafford side will look to bolster the engine room.
However, the 24-year-old is being linked with a number of top teams. Therefore, the coming weeks will be interesting and it remains to be seen where the midfielder’s future will lie.
Rice made his way through the youth ranks at the Hammers before breaking into the first team. The English national has developed into one of the best enforcers in the English top flight over the years.
The 24-year-old has been pivotal to West Ham’s success in the last few seasons. While David Moyes’ team have struggled in the league this season, they are set to face Fiorentina in the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Rice, the captain of the Irons, has the opportunity to lift a trophy for the London Stadium side. It would seemingly be a fruitful send-off for the England international if he does end up leaving the London Stadium side.
United’s engine room has lacked quality in depth in the current campaign. Fred and Scott McTominay have been relegated to the bench since Erik ten Hag’s arrival.
However, the two have often left a lot to be desired when called upon by the Dutch manager. Marcel Sabitzer, who signed for us on loan in January from Bayern Munich, has been decent but is set to return to the Bavarians.

But will Rice want to join the Old Trafford side right now? Only time will tell. Casemiro has cemented his place in the number six position under Ten Hag and it will be a challenging task for any player to displace the Brazilian.
