Victor Osimhen entrusts Napoli president with future amidst Manchester United interest

Napoli star Victor Osimhen has entrusted his future to Aurelio De Laurentiis, the president of the Partenopei, amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Old Trafford side are looking for a new number nine to add to the squad next summer. Ahead of the upcoming transfer window, the Nigeria international has been identified as one of the targets by the Red Devils.

Speaking to the media via the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 24-year-old revealed that De Laurentiis would play a big role in where he will play in the upcoming campaign. The striker is open to staying with the Serie A giants.

“I don’t know, the President has to decide that. I love the people of Napoli, they have shown me so much love. For me, I don’t mind, the president decides and I will just go with the flow.”

Napoli signed Osimhen in the summer of 2020 from LOSC Lille. Since then, the forward has been a key player for the Italian outfit, developing a keen eye for goal.

However, this season, the Nigerian has taken his game to the next level. The striker made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Partenopei, finding the back of the net 31 times and providing five assists.

Napoli ended their campaign with a 2-0 win over Sampdoria in the league recently. Luciano Soalletti’s team have been impressive this season, winning the Scudetto after over three decades.

United’s front line has had to rely on Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst as the only two natural number nines for the last few months. Unfortunately, the gaffer has had to call upon the Holland international a lot.

The former AS Monaco star has been on the sidelines for most of the campaign due to fitness issues. Recently, the 27-year-old was also unavailable for the FA Cup final against Manchester City as we lost 2-1.
