Diogo Dalot delighted after signing new Manchester United contract
Manchester United star Diogo Dalot expressed his delight after signing a new contract which will keep him at the club until June 2028.
The Red Devils have the option to extend the Portugal international’s deal by a further year. As a result, now, the Old Trafford side have secured the full-back’s future for the long term.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 23-year-old is honoured to be at United. The defender feels the Red Devils have something special cooking under Erik ten Hag.
“Playing for Manchester United is one of the highest honours that you can have in football. We have shared some fantastic moments over the past five years, and I’ve grown so much and my passion for this incredible club has only increased since the day that I joined.
“As a group of players, we all feel like we are at the start of a special journey right now.”
United signed Dalot in the summer of 2018 from FC Porto. Initially, the Portuguese served as a backup at the OId Trafford side. However, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s arrival, the full-back was mostly on the bench.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferred the former Crystal Palace star over the 23-year-old. The English national was ever-present in the Norwegian manager’s starting lineup.
As a result, Dalot spent the 2020/21 season on loan at AC Milan. At the Rossoneri, he found regular minutes on the pitch. However, after returning to the Manchester-based club, the Portuguese once again found himself as a bit-part player.

But the arrival of Ralf Rangnick changed the defender’s fortunes. The former interim head coach gave the right-back regular opportunities in the team.
In the current campaign, the 23-year-old has been Ten Hag’s go-to option. However, in the last few weeks, Wan-Bissaka made the most of the chances he has been given. The 25-year-old has been in the starting lineup over the last few weeks.

Yet, Dalot still seems to be a key player for the gaffer. The Portugal international’s performances in the first half of the season have warranted the extension of his stay in Manchester. Hopefully, the 23-year-old will get back to his best soon and help win more silverware at the Old Trafford side.
