Manchester United to make the signing of Benjamin Pavard their top priority this summer
As per French outlet L’Equipe (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are making the signing of Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard their top priority this summer.
The report reveals that if the Red Devils sign the 2018 World Cup winner, he will be deployed in central defence by Erik ten Hag.
Pavard is perfectly adept at playing as a fullback as well, but United see him as their centre-back signing this summer.
According to Mirror, the French international has decided that his time in Munich is over. His current contract there runs until next summer. Bayern would want to sell the former Stuttgart man now rather than let him go for free next year. Liverpool are also interested in him.
After a stuttering start, ten Hag stuck with the pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in central defence and reaped rewards for most of the season before they got injured.
Regarding the other options, Harry Maguire is likely to leave while Victor Lindelof might consider his future at the end of the season.
So, if United are to challenge for the biggest trophies under ten Hag, buying top players like Pavard has to happen. The Frenchman not only bolsters their central defence but also the fullback department.
The 27-year-old is a technically fantastic player who possesses good pace to match the runs of opposition forwards. He reads the game well, is aerially strong and can move positions around in-game as well.

Moreover, the Frenchman has the experience of playing the biggest game possible (the 2018 World Cup final). He has won multiple trophies and league titles with Bayern. He would bring that winning mentality and the ability to handle pressure under extreme circumstances.
