Manchester United fullback Diogo Dalot signs a new contract that will keep him at the club till 2028
As per BBC, Manchester United fullback Diogo Dalot has put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.
The new contract can also be extended by a year. It is an option that can be exercised by the club. The Portugal international has been at the club since arriving in 2018 from FC Porto.
Although the 24-year-old struggled to break through the first-team during his initial days, a loan spell at AC Milan in the 2020/21 season helped his cause.
Under Erik ten Hag this season, Dalot has looked like a player who could be a key part of the potential success this club may taste in the coming years.
The Portugal international played in the Carabao Cup Final where United beat Newcastle United to win a silverware after six years. He also played the whole game in the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton and Hove Albion. The Red Devils are due to play the final of the latter this Saturday.
Not just the consistency in performance levels, the 24-year-old has added versatility to his game in the recent past. Ten Hag has used him as a left-back in some games even though his favoured position is on the other side of the defence.
With regard to attributes, Dalot is good going forward, has a good cross in him, possesses the pace to make recovery runs and is defensively alert, something which is important for a modern-day fullback that only favours going forward and forgets the main part of the job.
