Bruno Fernandes backs Portugal compatriot Goncalo Ramos to thrive at Manchester United
Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes has backed his Portugal teammate Goncalo Ramos to thrive in the Premier League, including the Old Trafford side.
The SL Benfica star has been linked with a move to the Red Devils. During the 2022 World Cup, the 21-year-old popped up on the radar of a number of top teams. Erik ten Hag likes the youngster and is a big admirer of his qualities.
Speaking to Sport TV via A Bola (h/t Manchester Evening News), Fernandes believes Ramos has everything required to make a name for himself in the English top flight.
“The best always come in handy, be it Goncalo or another player. I think he has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United.”
The Portuguese forward made his way through the youth ranks at the Primeira Liga outfit. Last season, the youngster was behind Darwin Nunez in the pecking order. However, with the Uruguay international’s move to Liverpool, the 21-year-old has taken centre stage.
Ramos has showcased his prolificity in the current campaign. In 47 appearances in all competitions for Benfica, the Portuguese national has found the back of the net 27 times and has provided 12 assists.
Fernandes knows all about the 21-year-old’s abilities. Last year in Qatar, Fernando Santos preferred the youngster over Cristiano Ronaldo to lead the line in the latter stages of the prestigious tournament.
United have relied on Marcus Rashford this season to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. The England international has had to shoulder the burden of the Red Devils’ attack since Ten Hag’s arrival.
Apart from the 25-year-old, none of our forwards has contributed considerably upfront. The likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Anthony Martial have all been relatively inconsistent.

Therefore, we could evidently do with someone like Ramos in our ranks. Even Fernandes has given his approval for the same. But whether the Old Trafford side will heed the Portugal international’s recommendation remains to be seen.
