Manchester United have decided that they will not sign Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent basis from Bayern Munich next summer, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Austria international joined the Red Devils on a temporary move in January from the Bavarians. In the last few months, the midfielder has played a pivotal role at the Old Trafford side.

However, Erik ten Hag has opted against pursuing the 29-year-old’s services in the upcoming transfer window. The Dutch manager feels the Manchester-based club need to focus on bringing in much stronger options.

Sabitzer made a name for himself at RB Leipzig before Bayern came calling. But the Bundesliga giants have been unable to get the best out of Austrian since signing him in the summer of 2021.

The midfielder has mostly been a bit-part player for the Allianz Arena side. Thomas Tuchel’s team have the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Ryan Gravenberch at their disposal.

As a result, the 29-year-old has been unable to break into the Bavarians’ first team. However, he has enjoyed regular game time at United after joining in January to cover for Christian Eriksen.

In January, the Denmark international picked up a knock and was set to be out for a few months. Subsequently, the Red Devils made a move for Sabitzer on deadline day.

The Austrian has put in some impressive displays at the Old Trafford side over the last few months. In 18 appearances in all competitions for the Manchester-based club, the 29-year-old has found the back of the net three times and has provided one assist.

Unfortunately, Sabitzer’s season ended prematurely a few weeks back due to an injury. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether we will be able to see the Austrian don the red shirt at the Theatre of Dreams next season as well.
