Roy Keane urges Manchester United to sell shot-stopper David de Gea
Manchester United icon Roy Keane has urged Manchester United to part ways with David de Gea in the upcoming transfer window.
The Spaniard has been the first choice in between the sticks for the Red Devils in the current campaign. After an impressive defensive campaign from the Old Trafford side, the 32-year-old was handed the Premier League Golden Glove.
After the final fixture of the season against Fulham at home, where we won 2-1, with the veteran goalkeeper saving a penalty, he was congratulated by teammates at full time.
However, speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Keane slammed the applause De Gea got at full-time. Instead, the ex-midfielder and captain of the Red Devils believes United need to sell the shot-stopper to start winning trophies once again.
“They’re all patting De Gea on the back there… I’d move him on quickly. He wouldn’t be for me, he’s not going to get Manchester United back winning trophies, absolutely not. The idea that the players are patting him on the back is ridiculous, that’s his job.”
Marco Silva’s team took the lead against the Old Trafford side through Keny Tete. In the 26th minute, Alexander Mitrovic had the chance to double the Cottagers’ advantage over us from the spot. But our goalkeeper was able to deny him.
Subsequently, before the break, Jadon Sancho equalised for the Manchester-based club and levelled the scoring. Then, in the second half, Bruno Fernandes got on the scoresheet in the 55th minute to get us in front.

De Gea has been the number one at United for over a decade now. The Spaniard has been one of the best shot-stoppers in the world during his time at the Old Trafford side.
However, despite the former Atletico Madrid star’s brilliant qualities, he leaves a lot to be desired in certain aspects. Erik ten Hag has been seemingly keen on playing the ball out from the back. However, the veteran goalkeeper does not look confident doing that and has made a number of errors this season.

Therefore, the Old Trafford side have a decision to make regarding De Gea’s future. The Spaniard is our best option at the moment, with Jack Butland and Tom Heaton the backups. However, Keane has a point regarding the Red Devils needing someone better.
