Erik ten Hag wants to sign Mason Mount in the summer and is confident of persuading the player to join Manchester United
As per the Telegraph (subscription required), Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is eager to sign Chelsea star Mason Mount in the summer transfer window.
The report states that ten Hag is confident of persuading Mount to join United despite interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.
The 24-year-old seemingly bid goodbye to the Chelsea supporters at Stamford Bridge following the last game of the season on Sunday.
It is increasingly likely that he will leave the Blues in the summer, with his contract expiring next summer and no talk of a contract extension yet.
If United and ten Hag are sure about getting Mount, they must act on it quickly. We have seen transfer fails from this club in the past. Looking at example, the club wanted to sign Cody Gakpo, but somehow Liverpool sneaked behind and signed the Dutch international in January.
Coming back to Mount, he is a talented and versatile midfield player who can operate either as a number 10, an attacking number eight or as one of the forward line players.
The 24-year-old is technically very good, can add goals and assists from midfield and works very hard off the ball. He is a manager’s dream. There is a reason why the former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel kept picking him in his first-choice XIs. The German got the reward from the player as well.
Ten Hag’s style of play may suit Mount’s game. The former Ajax boss can potentially get the best out of the Chelsea man and make him an elite box-to-box midfielder.
