Brentford set to sign Mark Flekken as a replacement for Manchester United target David Raya
Premier League rivals Brentford are set to sign Mark Flekken from SC Freiburg as a replacement for Manchester United target David Raya, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Bees have activated the Holland international’s €13 million release clause to acquire his services from the Bundesliga outfit. As things stand, the 29-year-old has also completed his medical test with the Gtech Community Stadium side.
Flekken is seemingly the replacement for Raya at Brentford. The Spaniard, who has been linked with the Red Devils ahead of next summer, is expected to part ways with the Bees.

The 27-year-old has been at the West London club since signing in 2019. Over the years, the experienced goalkeeper has been the first choice at the Gtech Community Stadium side.
Under Thomas Frank, Brentford have been impressive. After being promoted to the Premier League, the Danish manager has managed to secure safety at the Bees over the previous two campaigns.
Raya has been pivotal in the West London club’s success. In the current campaign, the Spaniard has once again been impressive, keeping 12 clean sheets in 38 appearances in the English top flight.
At United, David de Gea has been our number one for over a decade. The former Atletico Madrid star has built a pedigree of being an exceptional shot-stopper.
Unfortunately, the Spaniard does have some frailties. The veteran goalkeeper leaves a lot to be desired with his distribution. With Erik ten Hag seemingly prioritising playing the ball out from the back, the 32-year-old has not looked comfortable on occasions this season and has made multiple errors.

Therefore, we evidently need someone who complements the gaffer’s style of play to get the best out of the team. But it remains to be seen whether Raya will leave Brentford next summer and join the Old Trafford side.
