Real Madrid to battle Manchester United for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard
Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to battle Manchester United to acquire the services of Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard, according to Kicker journalist Georg Holzner (h/t The Sun).
The France international is being tipped to part ways with the Bavarians in the upcoming transfer window. To that end, the Red Devils have been linked with the defender ahead of next summer.
However, the Old Trafford side are not the only team eyeing the 27-year-old. Los Blancos also have the right back on their radar. Premier League rivals Liverpool are also interested in him.
All three clubs have made contact with the Bundesliga giants to enquire about the availability of Pavard. The French national has lost his influence in the team over the last few seasons.
However, the arrival of Thomas Tuchel has seen the defender get regular minutes in the team. But the Allianz Arena side could go trophyless this season if Borussia Dortmund pip them to the league title.
Madrid have relied on Dani Carvajal at right-back for a number of years now. However, the Spain international has been injury-prone during his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu side. Also, the 31-year-old has not put in encouraging performances over the last few months.
As for United, Diogo Dalot was initially Erik ten Hag’s preferred option on the right-hand side of the defence. However, in recent weeks, Aaron Wan-Bissaka seems to have overtaken the Portuguese in the pecking order.
Also, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have lost their place in the backline this season. Thus, it would not be a surprise to see either of them leave next summer for pastures new.

Pavard is a versatile defender capable of playing at right-back as well as centrally. Therefore, he would evidently be a great asset at the Old Trafford side. But will Madrid beat us to the punch and get the French national? Only time will tell.
