Manchester United willing to pay no more than £60 million to Chelsea for Mason Mount
Manchester United are willing to pay no more than £60 million to Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window for Mason Mount, according to The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The midfielder’s current contract with the Blues is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Therefore, with just a little over 12 months remaining on his deal, it does not make sense to spend a considerable amount on the England international.
To that end, the Old Trafford side have decided that they ‘will not pay silly money’ to acquire the playmaker’s services next summer.
Erik ten Hag is keen on getting a hold of Mount’s signature. The Dutch manager is resigned to the idea of losing the playmaker’s compatriot Declan Rice to Arsenal. As such, the gaffer wants to add the Chelsea midfielder to his ranks.
The Blues are in need of some departures to stay within the limits of Financial Fair Play. Thus, the 24-year-old is being backed to leave in the coming months. United are also willing to sacrifice Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek to gather funds for the English national.
Mount is an academy product of the Stamford Bridge side’s academy. Over the years, he has been one of their best players. However, the midfielder has struggled to get going in the current campaign, with the West London club going through a turbulent time.
United signed Christian Eriksen on a free transfer last summer. The Denmark international has exceeded expectations at the Old Trafford side and has become a key player for Ten Hag.
However, the 31-year-old seems the most expendable member of our engine room. The former Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur star often struggles to complete the 90 minutes.

Mount is still young and has shown immense potential so far at Chelsea. A player like him would evidently add more quality to our squad. But it remains to be seen how much the Blues will demand for him.
