Bayern Munich join Manchester United in FC Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa race
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have joined Manchester United in the race for FC Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa, according to Record (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Portugal international is being chased by the Old Trafford side ahead of the upcoming transfer window. With David de Gea’s future still up in the air, the Red Devils are in search of a new goalkeeper.
To that end, the Manchester-based club are ‘repeatedly’ showing interest in the 23-year-old. However, he is also on the radar of the Bavarians as well as Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Costa made his way through the youth ranks at the Primeira Liga outfit and broke into the first team last season. Since then, the Portuguese international has not looked back.
In the current campaign, the shot-stopper has attracted a lot of people’s attention with some impressive displays in the Champions League. The 23-year-old has become a key player for the Dragoes.
Bayern have Manuel Neuer in their ranks. The Germany international has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world for several years now. However, the 37-year-old is not getting any younger. The Bundesliga giants also signed 34-year-old Yann Sommer in the previous transfer window.

At United, De Gea has been the number one for over a decade now. The former Atletico Madrid star has been a great shot-stopper for the Red Devils.
However, in terms of his distribution, the Spaniard leaves a lot to be desired with the ball at his feet. The 32-year-old is also not the most accomplished when it comes to saving spot-kicks.

Costa has made a name for himself this season by denying multiple penalties in the UCL. The Portuguese also looks comfortable playing the ball out from the back. However, whether the likes of Bayern will pounce on his signature ahead of United remains to be seen.
