Victor Lindelof delighted after Manchester United secure Champions League spot with Chelsea win
Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof expressed his delight as the Red Devils secured a place in next season’s Champions League with the win over Chelsea.
The Old Trafford side welcomed the Blues home on Thursday (25 May) in the Premier League. It was an end-to-end match that saw the Manchester-based club put four goals past Frank Lampard’s team.
Speaking to MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News) after the 4-1 victory, the Sweden international revealed that getting into the top four was a target for United.
“That was always the target for us, so I’m very pleased we achieved that today. I mean we knew we could secure the spot and we went out there and won the game. I think everyone is very happy.”
Going into the game, the Red Devils had all to play for while Chelsea were languishing in the middle of the table. The Stamford Bridge side have endured a turbulent campaign and will be hoping to get going in the upcoming campaign.
During the game, it often looked like the Blues did not care what the scoreline would be, leaving massive spaces in behind their defence at times.
The West London club had the first opportunity of the match but failed to take it. Subsequently, Casemiro took his chance early on in the fixture and gave us the lead.

The Old Trafford side then found the back of the net once again through Anthony Martial just before the break. Then, a couple of errors from Chelsea saw Bruno Fernandes win and score a penalty.
After that, the Blues were all over the place in the defence as Marcus Rashford pounced on an error and got on the scoresheet. Joao Felix got a consolation goal in the end for the Stamford Bridge side after single-handedly making a run and beating David de Gea.

Lindelof has done well in recent weeks. The 28-year-old has lost his place in the team this season but has done well when called upon. It remains to be seen whether the Swedish national will be with us when we play in the UCL in the upcoming campaign.
