Erik ten Hag warns Manchester United about using money without strategy

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has warned the club about using money in the right way and having a strategy and purpose behind everything.

As things stand, the Glazers are open to selling the Red Devils. To that end, Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have submitted their bids to acquire the Old Trafford side. However, with that, Neymar has been linked with a move to Manchester.

But speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag has urged for the judicious use of resources. The Dutch manager believes the funds will go to waste if not used in the proper manner.

“You have to do the right things, you can have money but you have to do it and spend it in a smart way and you need to have a strategy behind it. Otherwise, the money doesn’t work. When there is no strategy or the right strategy, money doesn’t work.”

The gaffer is right in his assessment. Chelsea are an example to be wary of. Since Clearlake Capital has taken over the Blues, they have spent £600 million on new signings over the last two transfer windows. Yet, the Stamford Bridge side are struggling at the moment.

On the other hand, unfortunately for us, Manchester City have shown great astuteness over the last few years. The Sky Blues have made some impressive acquisitions and have built a formidable squad for Pep Guardiola.

Under Ed Woodward, we tried to bring in superstars like Paul Pogba, Angel Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez. However, they all failed to showcase their true potential at the club.

Ten Hag has managed to steady the ship for now. The Dutch manager has found instant success at United. He ended our trophy drought earlier this season as we won the Carabao Cup. The former Ajax head coach also has the Red Devils in the FA Cup final.

In January, the Old Trafford side’s hierarchy failed to back the gaffer. We needed reinforcements but got Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer on loan. Hopefully, the former Ajax head coach will be back next summer, but not in a reckless manner.
