Manchester United and Brighton and Hove Albion are eyeing a move for Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi
As per Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United will rival Brighton and Hove Albion for the signature of young Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi.
The former Monza and Empoli player is a central midfielder who can operate as an attacking midfielder too. He has scored seven goals in 37 league games for Sassuolo this season.
Frattesi, an Italian international, is one of the few established European midfielders eyed by United boss Erik ten Hag as he aims to bolster the central midfield department in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old’s current contract with Sassuolo runs until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt). They had an underwhelming season as a bottom-half finish is on the cards with three defeats in the last five games.
Coming back to United, the club is willing to listen to offers for Fred this summer. The Brazilian has played a fringe role this season under ten Hag. It also won’t be a surprise if Scott McTominay is offloaded after the end of this campaign.
Although the midfield trio of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen are doing well, the Red Devils need more quality additions in that department.
Frattesi can add technical qualities along with his eye for a goal or two. He can be the ball carrier and make an impact as a playmaker who is comfortable playing the deeper role.

It remains to be seen whether Ten Hag and his staff would prefer a player of this profile or go back to trying the signature of Frenkie de Jong. The latter is a specialist defensive midfielder who can forge a good partnership with Casemiro. He can offer more defensive cover if need be. This is not to belittle how good a player Frattesi is, by the way.
