Aston Villa are exploring a loan with option buy for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial
As per Football Transfers (h/t Manchester Evening News), Aston Villa are eyeing a loan move with an option to buy Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.
With Cristiano Ronaldo departing in November following the termination of the contract, it was an opportunity for Martial to step in and lead the line adeptly for United.
As it turned out, the Frenchman struggled for form and consistency, while injuries did not help his cause. If we look at his numbers, the former AS Monaco man has scored only eight goals in 27 appearances in all competitions.
The 27-year-old has missed 27 games due to various injuries as well. He is been at United since 2015 and things have never been smooth sailing for him at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are most certainly going to sign a new striker in the summer. Erik ten Hag has reiterated the need for a number nine who can finish off the chances his team creates.
They are hopeful of getting Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, while Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and England captain Harry Kane are linked as well.
Coming back to Villa, with them on the cusp of qualifying for European competition (most likely the Europa Conference League) next season, they would need more options up front. Ollie Watkins has done a great but he would need support. Hence, it makes sense why they are eyeing a move for the 27-year-old Martial.

United should accept their proposal and let go of the Frenchman this summer. His contract here anyway expires next summer, with an option for an extra year. Irrespective of that, it would be good to sell him now rather than just a loan move, contrary to Villa’s loan with the option to buy.
