Arsenal join Manchester United in Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount race
Premier League rivals Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Chelsea star Mason Mount, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Sun].
The England international is set to enter the final 12 months of his current contract at the Blues in the coming months. As things stand, the Stamford Bridge side have been unable to agree on a new deal with the midfielder.
As a result, the 24-year-old could part ways with his boyhood club in the upcoming transfer window. While Chelsea are keen on extending the playmaker’s stay, along with the Red Devils and the Gunners, Liverpool are also monitoring his situation.
Mount made his way through the youth ranks at the West London-based club. After a fruitful loan spell at Derby County, the midfielder was given an opportunity by Frank Lampard in the Blues’ first team.
Since then, the playmaker has been ever-present in the Stamford Bridge side’s starting lineup. However, over the last few months, the English national seems to have lost his place in the team.
Arsenal are looking to add reinforcements to their engine room next summer. At the moment, Mikel Arteta has the likes of Thomas Partey, Jorginho and Granit Xhaka at his disposal. But the Switzerland international has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen.
As for United, Bruno Fernandes has been our first choice number 10 for quite some time. The Portugal international has been a pivotal player under Erik ten Hag as well.
But the Red Devils evidently lack depth in the engine room. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are the other options preferred by the gaffer in the middle of the park. But Fred, Scott McTominay, and Donny van de Beek leave a lot to be desired when called upon.

It is not always that a player of Mount’s quality is available on the market. However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be able to pip us to the 24-year-old’s signature in the coming months.
