Romano: Manchester United in talks to extend the contact of Facundo Pellistri till 2028
As per a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are in advanced talks to extend the contract of young Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri till the summer of 2028.
Pellistri’s current contract at Old Trafford expires in 2025 (Transfermarkt). Extending that by three years would mean that the club has plans for him in the near future.
The 21-year-old has been at United since October 2020 when he signed from Uruguayan club Penarol. He has had a couple of loan spells at Spanish club Alaves, for whom he played just over 1000 minutes despite making 35 appearances and did score or assist a goal (Transfermarkt).
If we talk about this season, Pellistri has made nine appearances for the United senior side, assisting a goal. He is a right winger who can play on the other side or operate as an attacking midfielder if required.
The former Penarol player has made 11 appearances for the Uruguayan national team and had decent outings for them during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Pellistri has the talent and age for United to keep faith on and reap rewards in the coming years. If he signs this new contract, he might be expecting a bit more game time next season to show what he has got.
United boss Erik ten Hag has not shirked away from handing opportunities to young players in his first season at Old Trafford. He has played Alejandro Garnacho quite often as an impact substitute and the young Argentine has done well in that role.
