Napoli identify Giorgio Scalvini as successor to Manchester United target Kim Min-jae
Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini has been identified as the successor to Manchester United target Kim Min-jae by Napoli, according to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
As things stand, the Red Devils are closing in on acquiring the South Korea international’s services ahead of the upcoming transfer window. To that end, the Partenopei are planning for the centre-back’s possible departure and have identified the Italy international as his replacement.
The Old Trafford side are willing to pay the former Fenerbahce star’s €50 million release clause in the coming months. Also, the Manchester-based club are in talks with the 26-year-old and his representatives over a move.
Luciano Spalletti has relied on the partnership of Min-jae and Amir Rrahmani at the back in the current campaign. The Naples-based club have gone on to dominate Serie A and win the Scudetto after over three decades.
Napoli also have Juan Jesus and Leo Ostigard at their disposal. However, Scalvini is an up-and-coming star. The 19-year-old has already established himself as a key player at Atalanta this season and has done well at La Dea.
The Italian made his way through the youth ranks at the Bergamo-based club and has been ever-present in Gian Piero Gasperini’s team in the 2022/23 term.
United’s backline is expected to be overhauled next summer. Harry Maguire’s future at the club is uncertain. It also remains to be seen what will happen with Eric Bailly, who is currently on loan at Olympique Marseille.
Axel Tuanzebe will leave the Red Devils in the upcoming transfer window. On the other hand, the Old Trafford side also announced the exit of Phil Jones.
