Erik ten Hag coy on Marcus Rashford contract negotiations at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was coy about the reason negotiations between Marcus Rashford and the club have dragged on regarding a new contract.

The England international’s existing deal at the Old Trafford side is set to expire in the summer of 2024. However, as of yet, the Red Devils have been unable to come to a consensus with the forward over fresh terms.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag admitted that he knew why the process was taking so long. But the Dutch manager did not reveal the cause.

“Marcus wants to stay and we want him to stay, so I think we will find each other.

“Yes, I know (why discussions have dragged on), but I don’t talk about the process. Let the process go.”

Rashford made his way through the youth ranks at United before breaking into the first team in the 2016/17 campaign. Over the years, the 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength and become one of our most influential players.

Although last season, the winger had a massive dip in form. He was unable to have an impact when called upon. As a result, the English national had lost his place in the team.

Thankfully, Ten Hag’s arrival has seen the forward find his feet. The academy graduate has gotten back to his best since the former Ajax head coach’s arrival in the Old Trafford side’s dugout.

Rashford has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils’ attack in the current campaign. The Dutch manager has only been able to rely on the English national to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

The forward is enjoying his best season in front of goal for United. He has scored 29 times and has provided 11 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions for the Manchester-based club this term.

Considering the 25-year-old’s importance to the team, it would be wise for us to tie him down to a new contract quickly. Hopefully, both parties will be able to find an agreement and things will be made official in the coming months.
