Manchester United ‘leading’ SL Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos pursuit
Manchester United are ‘leading’ the pursuit to acquire the services of SL Benfica and Portugal star Goncalo Ramos, according to Record (h/t Manchester Evening News).
As things stand, the Red Devils are favourites to get a hold of the 21-year-old’s signature. The Old Trafford side are in the front of the queue in regards to signing the striker.
United will look to bolster the front line in the upcoming transfer window. Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is Erik ten Hag’s main target. However, the Red Devils also have the likes of Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani on their radar alongside Ramos.
The Portugal international made his way through the youth ranks at Benfica. In the previous campaign, the 21-year-old played second fiddle to Darwin Nunez in the team.
However, with the Uruguay international’s move to Liverpool last summer, Ramos has become the Eagles’ talisman this season. The Portuguese has been pivotal to the Primeira Liga outfit’s success as of late.
In the current campaign, he has been a key player for Roger Schmidt. The 21-year-old has found the back of the net 26 times and has provided 12 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions for the Lisbon-based club.
United have had to rely on Marcus Rashford to consistently find the back of the net since Ten Hag’s arrival. The England international has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils’ attack under the Dutch manager.
The former Ajax head coach has been unable to count on Anthony Martial for most of the season. The French national has struggled with a number of injuries in the current campaign. Wout Weghorst is the only other number nine at the gaffer’s disposal for now.

Therefore, we evidently need a prolific number nine in our ranks. But will Ramos be the one to solve the issues at the Old Trafford side? Only time will tell.
