Robbie Savage backs Manchester United star Casemiro to win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award
Football pundit Robbie Savage thinks Casemiro should win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year Award. The winner will be announced on Monday, May 29.
After making a late summer move from Real Madrid for a fee of around £70m, Casemiro’s impact on the team has been phenomenal.
So much so that United used to miss him when he got suspended for multiple games twice due to the red cards. The Brazil international is not only an excellent defensive cover in the midfield but has the underrated ability to score headed goals from set-pieces and find the right passes to set the team attacking.
Here’s what Savage said when asked about the player he backs to lift an award that is wholly decided by the fans (h/t Manchester United website):
“You’re looking at the performances, who’s influenced the team the most?
“Casemiro, [Marcus] Rashford and [Lisandro] Martinez, those three, [David] De Gea has got the most clean sheets in the Premier League.
“If I was saying right now: who would Manchester United miss the most for the longest period in the team, who affects the team the most? Is it Rashford or Casemiro or Martinez?
“I would probably think Casemiro because, when he’s not played or he’s played poorly, you look at the results. So I would say Casemiro.”
If we look at the numbers from Sofascore, the 31-year-old exhibits a pass accuracy of 78%, has made 3.1 tackles per game, won 56% of the total duels, and has zero errors leading to an opposition or goal.
The five-time Champions League winner has the experience of winning big things to go with all the quality he has. We witnessed his winning habit in the Carabao Cup Final against Newcastle United when he scored the opening goal of the game and became a rock in front of the back line to not allow any sniff to the opposition.
The hope is that United make clever additions in the summer window and supplement the quality Casemiro possesses in midfield.

If the Brazilian has a ball carrier alongside him, he can sit at the base of the midfield and dictate games for fun. For sure, a deserving candidate to win the Player of the Year award.
