Manchester United are willing to listen to offers for Fred
As per TeamTalk (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United will be willing to listen to offers for midfielder Fred in the coming summer transfer window.
Fred, whose contract at Old Trafford expires next summer (Transfermarkt), has had very little game time this season, especially after the World Cup.
If we look at the numbers, the Brazil international has made 52 appearances in all competitions but clocked just over 2000 minutes of playing time. It means that he is not starting most of the games.
The report claims that boss Erik ten Hag wants to be ruthless in the transfer window and let go of the players he thinks are not good enough to take the team forward. Fred is apparently one of those players.
After arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018, the 30-year-old has had a mixed-bag time at the club. His form has lacked consistency from day one, but there was never a shortage of effort from him.
At the age he is in and with his contract expiring next season, it sounds like a sensible move to let him go this summer. If the buying club gives good money, United can use that to buy players in the transfer market.
Ten Hag and his staff should look to add a central midfielder to the squad to supplement the good work done by Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Christian Eriksen. A player who can carry the ball and be agile defensively would be perfect.
