Manchester United in ‘advanced talks’ for Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae
Manchester United are in ‘advanced talks’ for Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Chief Editor of TuttoMercatoWeb Marco Conterio on Twitter (h/t Express).
The Red Devils are pressing and continuing with the discussions for the South Korea international ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Erik ten Hag is keen on bolstering the Old Trafford side’s backline.
As things stand, the Partenopei are accepting of the fact that the defender will leave next summer. To that end, United are planning to activate the 26-year-old’s £43 million release clause in June.
Min-jae signed for Napoli last summer from Fenerbahce. The centre-back has excelled in his debut season in Italy, winning the Scudetto with the Serie A giants.
While the Naples-based club were looking to extend the South Korean’s current contract, it looks like an exit is on the cards instead. But it remains to be seen what the future holds for the defender.
The 26-year-old has been pivotal to Luciano Spalletti’s plans this season. He has made 43 appearances in all competitions for the Partenopei, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
United’s defence has fluttered in recent weeks in the absence of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. The two World Cup winners have been Erik ten Hag’s preferred duo in the backline in the current campaign. However, they are on the sidelines at the moment.
Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have stepped in at centre-back. Unfortunately, all of them have made some sort of error in defence in recent weeks.

Our skipper has lost his place in the starting lineup and has been poor for some time now. Therefore, it seems like the right time to part ways with some of our underperforming players and add fresh faces to the squad. Hopefully, Min-jae will bring his qualities and strengthen our squad next summer.
