Michail Antonio hammers Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea for West Ham United error
West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has hammered Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea for his mistake in the 1-0 loss.
The Red Devils visited the London Stadium on Sunday (7 May) in the Premier League. Said Benrahma got on the scoresheet for the Irons in the first half after a blunder from the Old Trafford side’s veteran goalkeeper.
Speaking on the BBC’s The Footballer’s Football Podcast (h/t Manchester Evening News), Antonio, who started up front for West Ham against Man United, feels the Spaniard has a few errors in him.
“I can’t slate the man. I don’t really want to slate the man. But De Gea has got to do better. I don’t understand, he is such a good keeper. But he has these moments, I feel so bad for the guy.”
It was an important match for both teams. David Moyes’ team are fighting for survival in the Premier League, while the Red Devils are trying to secure a place in the top four.
Unfortunately, it was the Hammers who came out on top. As a result, the Old Trafford side now have Liverpool on their tails in fifth place. But attaining Champions League football is still in our hands. We need to win three of the last four games in the league.
Hopefully, De Gea will put in clutch performances until the end of the campaign, as he has done for most of the season.
Initially, in the first two fixtures under Erik ten Hag, the 32-year-old showcased some of his frailties. However, there have been several moments when the shot-stopper has pulled off some impressive saves.
Unfortunately, since Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez’s injuries against Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, the Spaniard has not looked confident. Their absence could seemingly be a factor in the veteran goalkeeper’s dip in form.

For now, De Gea is our best bet. Tom Heaton and Jack Butland are the other players in our goalkeeping ranks. It remains to be seen whether the 32-year-old can end the campaign on a high note.
