Diogo Costa, who plays for FC Porto, has been valued at £70 million by the Primeira Liga outfit amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils have the Portugal international on their radar as an option to bolster the goalkeeping department. Erik ten Hag’s scouting team have been monitoring the shot-stopper and have been impressed on several occasions.

As a result, the Old Trafford side are contemplating a move for Costa in the upcoming transfer window. However, the promising goalkeeper is tied down to the Dragoes until June 2027.

The 23-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Porto and got the opportunity to feature in the first-team last season regularly. Subsequently, the shot-stopper has cemented his place in Sergio Conceicao’s team.

In the current campaign, the Portuguese has caught a lot of people’s attention. He was also Fernando Santos’ first choice in between the sticks in the 2022 World Cup.

Costa had also put in some brilliant displays in the Champions League for Porto. The Portuguese was inspiring in the group stages, saving multiple penalties and showing good prowess with the ball at his feet.

At United, David de Gea has been the number one for some time now. Erik ten Hag has trusted the Spaniard. However, the veteran goalkeeper has left a lot to be desired with his distribution.

But the gaffer does not have other quality options on the bench to replace the 32-year-old. Tom Heaton and Jack Butland are good pros, but with all due respect, they are not up to the Red Devils; standards.

Erik ten Hag seems keen on building up the play from the back. In that regard, Costa looks like a decent option to pursue. But will we spend a considerable amount on the Portuguese next summer? Only time will tell.
