Chelsea-bound Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep Manchester United target Mason Mount
Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to be the next Chelsea manager, is keen on retaining Mason Mount amidst interest from Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Metro).
The Argentine head coach is of the opinion that the 24-year-old can be pivotal for the Stamford Bridge side in the upcoming campaign. Having made his way through the youth ranks at the West London club, the playmaker is seen as a key figure.
However, the England international’s current contract is set to enter its final year next season. Chelsea are yet to convince him to extend, leading the Red Devils, as well as Arsenal and Liverpool, to keep an eye on the midfielder’s situation.
Pochettino will make his way to the Stamford Bridge side after a brief hiatus from management. The Argentine last coached Paris Saint-Germain. However, the 51-year-old arguably made a name for himself at Tottenham Hotspur.
Mount has been one of the Blues’ best players in past seasons. The England international has also been an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s plans for the Three Lions.
However, the 24-year-old has found life difficult in the current campaign. The playmaker has also lost his place in the West London club’s team and has not had the desired impact for some time now.
United have relied on Bruno Fernandes as the number 10 for some time now. The Portugal international oozes quality.
Erik ten Hag has also tried to deploy Jadon Sancho in the playmaking role at the Old Trafford side. January loan signing Marcel Sabitzer has also done well in recent weeks as our attacking midfielder.
