Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic prefers Serie A stay amidst AC Milan interest
Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is a target for Manchester United, prefers staying in Serie A amidst interest from AC Milan, according to CalcioMercatoWeb.
The 28-year-old is open to parting ways with the Biancocelesti in the upcoming transfer window. While the Rome-based club have been reluctant to part ways with the midfielder in the past, that could change with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2024.
To that end, the Rossoneri have entered the race for the Serbia international. However, Champions League qualification is going to be key for the San Siro side to convince him, with Juventus also in the race.
As things stand, Milan are fifth in the league table, two points behind Inter Milan in fourth place. Stefano Pioli’s team beat Lazio on the weekend in a crunch tie in the top-four race.
The Rossoneri have some of the most exciting and promising players in their engine room. They have relied on the partnership of Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer in the middle of the park for most of the season.
But Milinkovic-Savic is a world-class talent. The 28-year-old has established himself in Italy over the years. In the current campaign, the Bosnian has made 43 appearances for Maurizio Sarri’s team, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists.
Christian Eriksen has been an inspiring addition to United’s midfield. The Denmark international has surprised many with how important he has been for the Red Devils this season.
However, the 31-year-old is not getting any younger and often requires to be substituted in the second half of games due to apparent fatigue. But in the playmaker’s absence, we do not perform at our best.
