Odds BK shot-stopper Leopold Wahlstedt flattered by Manchester United transfer interest
Leopold Wahlstedt, who plays in between the sticks for Odds BK, is flattered by the transfer interest from Manchester United in him.
The 23-year-old plays in the Norwegian top flight. Scouts from the Red Devils have been monitoring the Sweden international and tracking the young goalkeeper’s progress. Apart from the Old Trafford side, Premier League rivals Liverpool also have him on their radar.
Speaking to Fotboll Skanalen (h/t Manchester Evening News), Wahlstedt was asked about him being linked with teams in the English top flight. The shot-stopper expressed his gratitude but was coy about the future.
“It’s fun when it’s written positively about clubs seeing what you’re doing, then you’ve done something good. They are absolutely big clubs. But I don’t want to comment on any specific club’s interest or anything like that.”
At the moment, David de Gea is the number one at United. The Spain international has been the first choice in between the sticks at the Old Trafford side for over a decade now.
However, the former Atletico Madrid star’s current contract with the Red Devils is set to expire at the end of the season. To that end, the Manchester-based club are aiming to extend the veteran goalkeeper’s stay.
Apart from the 32-year-old, United also have Tom Heaton and Jack Butland in their ranks. But the Crystal Palace loanee is expected to depart the club next summer. As a result, it is likely that we will sign a new shot-stopper in the upcoming transfer window.
Who is Leopold Wahlstedt?
Wahlstedt is a promising young goalkeeper who plays for Odds BK in Norway. The Swedish national signed for the Skagerak Arena side in 2021 from Arendal Fotball.
Over the years, the 23-year-old has established himself in the Scandinavian outfit’s starting lineup. The shot-stopper was also handed his international debut earlier this year in a friendly 2-0 win over Finland.
