Manchester United make ‘contact’ with Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio
Manchester United have made ‘contact’ with the camp of Goncalo Inacio, who currently plays for Primeira Liga outfit Sporting CP, according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo (h/t Manchester Evening News).
At the moment, the Red Devils are in discussion with the representatives of the centre-back. However, the Old Trafford side are yet to hold conversations with the Leoes regarding the 21-year-old. The Lisbon-based club are expected to demand the defender’s €45 million release clause.
In the upcoming transfer window, United are expected to add a new centre-back to their ranks. As things stand, the future of club captain Harry Maguire is uncertain beyond this season.
The former Leicester City star has lost his influence in the team since Erik ten Hag’s arrival in United’s dugout. Along with the 30-year-old, Victor Lindelof has also spent most of the campaign on the bench at the Old Trafford side.
In previous campaigns, Maguire and the Sweden international were the preferred pairing in our backline. However, with the arrival of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, that has changed.
The Dutch manager has counted on the Argentine and French nationals in the defence. The two have formed a solid duo in the defence for the Red Devils. But they are both on the sidelines for now.
Inacio made his way through the youth ranks at Sporting CP. The Portugal international established himself in Ruben Amorim’s team last season and has become a pivotal player in the current campaign.
The 21-year-old is a promising defender with immense potential. But it remains to be seen where his future will lie in the coming future.
