Manchester United are ‘hopeful’ of tying David de Gea and other stars down to a new contract before the end of the season, according to Manchester Evening News.

At the moment, the Red Devils are in discussion with the Spanish shot-stopper. The 32-year-old’s existing deal with the Old Trafford side is set to expire at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Apart from the goalkeeper, United are also in talks with Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot about extending their stay. The English and Portugal internationals saw the Manchester-based club trigger a one-year extension option in their contracts in December.

As a result, both of them have deals that run until June 2024. The Red Devils are working on making the forward and the right-back put pen to paper on new terms.

However, in the case of Rashford, a new contract is expected to take some time. The 25-year-old has been in fine form this season and is our leading goalscorer in all competitions since Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

The English national has shouldered the burden of the Old Trafford side’s attack in the current campaign. Unfortunately, other forwards in the team have been unable to contribute a considerable amount in the final third.

As for Dalot, he has been the gaffer’s first choice on the right-hand side of the defence at United. Initially, the 23-year-old was ever-present in the starting lineup. However, since the 2022 World Cup, the Portuguese right-back’s performances have dipped a bit, leading to more game time for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

De Gea has been one of our best players since last season. However, under Ten Hag, the shot-stopper’s frailty with the ball at his feet has been evident and costly at times.

But, along with Rashford and Dalot, the former Atletico Madrid star has been pivotal for us in the current campaign. Therefore, it is wise for the Red Devils to secure the trio’s future as soon as possible.
