Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer “proud” of Manchester United stay
Marcel Sabitzer, who is on loan at Manchester United from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, is proud of his stay at the Old Trafford side.
The Austria international joined the Red Devils on a temporary move in the previous transfer window. However, the 29-year-old is only at the Manchester-based club until the end of the season as things stand.
Speaking to Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter, Sabitzer has hailed United as an institution and the midfielder is glad to be part of such an enormous and historic club.
“Here, everything is bigger. There are even more people who care about you. People are crazy about #MUFC. You can feel it at Old Trafford (…) So I can only say that I enjoy being here and I’m very proud to have managed to be a part of the club.”
The Austrian would like to make the move to the Red Devils permanent. Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has taken over from Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern and the 29-year-old has not yet had a conversation with the German head coach.
Sabitzer signed for the Bavarians in the summer of 2021 from RB Leipzig. However, the midfielder has been unable to cement his place in the Allianz Arena side’s starting lineup. A return to the Bundesliga giants is unlikely for the Austrian.
At United, the 29-year-old came in during a time when Christian Eriksen was on the sidelines. Casemiro has also picked up a few suspensions in the last few months.
As a result, Sabitzer’s addition has been pivotal to the Red Devils’ depth in the middle of the park. Erik ten Hag has played the midfielder in various positions this season. But he has thrived as a number 10.
In the current campaign, the Austrian has made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Old Trafford side, scoring three goals and providing one assist. The 29-year-old is slowly coming into his own at the Manchester-based club.
