Erik ten Hag feels Manchester United Premier League schedule not an “excuse” for Tottenham Hotspur draw

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag feels the Red Devils’ Premier League schedule is not an “excuse” for the draw versus Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs welcomed the Old Trafford side on Thursday (27 April) in the English top flight. After taking a two-goal lead, the Manchester-based club slipped up and dropped two points, with the North London side making a comeback.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag has rued the fixture congestion that United face. However, the gaffer does not want to use that as a justification for the player not being up for it against Tottenham.

“We have the worst schedule in the Premier League and it will not change, so we have to take that but it cannot be an excuse. The time is enough to recover so our players are in demand to be ready and today we were not ready.”

We dominated the first half, with Spurs’ defence all over the place. The Red Devils had control in the middle of the park and made the most of things.

Jadon Sancho broke the deadlock in the seventh minute with a sublime finish. Then, just before half-time, Marcus Rashford found the back of the net to double our advantage.

While the Old Trafford side were on top before the break, the North London side did have a few chances of their own. But Ryan Mason’s team were unable to make the most of their opportunities.

However, Tottenham punished United in the second half. Pedro Porro got a goal back for them in the 56th minute. Subsequently, the Lilywhites had a number of chances to equalise with our defence all over the place.

Bruno Fernandes had a brilliant opportunity to make it 3-1, but he hit the crossbar from close range. Unfortunately, in the 79th minute, Son Heung-min beat David de Gea to level the proceedings.

United have made it into the final stages of almost every competition this season. Therefore, we have had to play a lot of games.

But our backline let us down in the draw. While we are missing a lot of players, the ones on the pitch have enough quality to be more decisive. Hopefully, this result will not come back to bite the Red Devils in the race for the top four.
