Christian Eriksen feels Manchester United stopped playing in Tottenham Hotspur draw

Manchester United star Christian Eriksen feels the Red Devils took their foot off the gas in the draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

We visited Spurs’ home ground on Thursday (27 April). The match was a key fixture in the race for the top four. However, the Old Trafford side were unable to cement their hold in fourth place after the North London side’s comeback.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game via Manchester Evening News, Eriksen, who spent almost seven years playing for Tottenham, was disappointed with United not putting the game to bed. The Dane was substituted at around the hour mark.

“I think we missed the last percentage of really taking the game and finishing it off. I think we took a bit of the gas off and that was our problem.”

Jadon Sancho gave the Red Devils the lead after a brilliant shot from the edge of the box. Subsequently, the Old Trafford side created even more opportunities in the game but could not make the most of them.

But just before half-time, we hit them on the counter through Marcus Rashford. The 25-year-old made no mistake in beating Fraser Forster with a fearsome shot and found the back of the net to double our advantage.

Unfortunately, Spurs came out flying for the second half. United’s defence was unable to cope with the North London side’s attack. Then, in the 56th minute, Pedro Porro got a goal back for the Lilywhites.

A few moments later, Bruno Fernandes had the opportunity to restore our two-goal lead. Unfortunately, the Portugal international did everything right except finding the back of the net.

After that, the Red Devils were pegged back by the North London side. Ryan Mason’s team had several chances to equalise. Finally, in the 79th minute, Son Heung-min levelled the scoring versus the Old Trafford side.

United had a number of opportunities to further their lead. In the second half, we let Tottenham play their game and got dominated. Hopefully, the Red Devils will learn from their mistakes and bounce back against Aston Villa.
