Manchester United and Manchester City ‘interested’ in Brentford full-back Aaron Hickey
Along with Premier League rivals Manchester City, Manchester United are ‘interested’ in Brentford star Aaron Hickey, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are eyeing a move for the Scotland international ahead of the upcoming transfer window. To that end, the Old Trafford side sent scouts to watch the right-back play this season.
United could pursue a new right-back next summer. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot’s futures at the Manchester-based club are uncertain at the moment.
The English national and the Portugal international have competed for a place in the team in recent weeks. While the former FC Porto star was Erik ten Hag’s first choice before the 2022 World Cup, the former Crystal Palace star has been in fine form over the last few months.
Hickey signed for Brentford in the summer of 2022 from Serie A outfit Bologna. Since then, the 20-year-old has put in some impressive displays for Thomas Frank’s team in the English top flight.
City have had Kyle Walker dominate the right-hand side of the defence since his move from Tottenham Hotspur. But the 32-year-old is not getting any younger. Pep Guardiola’s team took a foothold in the race for the PL title after beating Arsenal 4-1.

“Aaron has taken some good steps in the right direction. He played a very good game against Aston Villa. He is progressing very well. He has a lot of things to improve. We are pleased with his first season but there’s much more to come from him”#CHEBRE pic.twitter.com/YH51FRriDf
United have an impressive defensive record in the league this season. We have kept 14 clean sheets, the most in the English top flight in the current campaign.
Defensively, Wan-Bissaka has been imperial in recent weeks. However, the 25-year-old leaves a lot to be desired in the final third of the pitch. Dalot has an edge over the English national in that regard.

In case either the Portuguese or the former Crystal Palace star were to leave next summer, the Red Devils would evidently need to add reinforcements. However, whether Hickey will be the one to make his way to the Theatre of Dreams in the coming months remains to be seen.
