Todd Boehly spoke to Mason Mount as Chelsea bid to keep Manchester United target at the club
According to David Ornstein of the Athletic (subscription required), Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly held direct talks with Mason Mount on Friday to convince the Manchester United target to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge.
The report states that Boehly tried to relay the message of how important Mount is to Chelsea. The feeling around the hierarchy is that the talk had a positive impact on the possibility of the England international signing a new deal with them.
The 24-year-old, whose current contract with the Blues expires next summer, has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United. League leaders Arsenal have also enquired about the situation. Bayern Munich, under former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, are keeping an eye on him too.
It remains to be seen how this story unfolds in the coming weeks. Liverpool seem like the favourites, but United and others have a chance if the player does not extend his Chelsea stay by the end of this season.
Mount is an exceptional talent who has done well for the Blues in the last three seasons. The current campaign hasn’t been the best, but we can say that about virtually every player in the Chelsea team as of now.
The England international is a versatile player who can play in a three-man midfield, can operate as a winger on either side or can be used as a number 10 in a 4-2-3-1 system.
His technical authority on the ball, married up with an excellent work rate can be a dream combination for any manager, let alone Erik ten Hag. Moreover, he is versatile enough to play anywhere in midfield and down the flanks. With age, he will only get better.

If the chance is there, United must give it their best shot to sign the 24-year-old this summer. His addition would fulfil a homegrown slot in the squad and enhance the quality of the ammunition Ten Hag has.
