According to the Telegraph, Manchester United are making initial attempts to find out what will it take to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the summer.

The report states that there is a growing expectation that the England captain won’t sign a new deal with Spurs. His current deal in north London expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt).

United are planning to bid for the 29-year-old. The discussions around what the price tag would be and how to crack a deal with Daniel Levy has begun.

The club hierarchy knows how tough it is to deal with Levy. Although the Spurs chief would listen to offers in the region of £80m from foreign clubs, the demand will be close to £100m from English clubs.

United would ideally not want the transfer deal to drag till the final weeks of the transfer window and miss out on other targets such as Victor Osimhen in the process.

It would be interesting to see what Kane wants because, after a horrific defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, Tottenham’s chances of finishing in the top four is almost non-existent.

Even though he does not want to extend his stay there, will he be looking to stay for another season before leaving for free, or leave now to play Champions League football with United?

The England captain will be turning 30 soon, hence he must decide on whether to stay at Spurs and continue making club records, or move elsewhere to have a greater chance of winning trophies.

If we talk about United, Erik ten Hag has made it clear that the club must sign a striker in the summer to take that next step in the following seasons. Getting Kane would be ideal.
