Wolves ‘ready’ to let Manchester United and Arsenal target Ruben Neves leave
Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) are ‘ready’ to let Manchester United and Arsenal target Ruben Neves leave next summer, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t The Sun].
The midfielder’s current contract with the Molineux Stadium side is set to expire in the summer of 2025. As a result, the West Midlands club look like they are willing to part ways with him.
Apart from the Red Devils and the Gunners, Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid also have the 26-year-old on their radar. However, Julen Lopetegui’s team will demand £40 million for the Portugal international.
Wolves would prefer selling Neves to a club abroad. But they will not stand in the midfielder’s way and have already planned for a future without the 26-year-old.
The Portuguese signed for the West Midlands club in the summer of 2017 from FC Porto. Since then, he has developed into one of the best players at the Molineux Stadium side.
In the current campaign, Neves has once again been pivotal for Wolves and has been handed the captain’s armband. He has made 34 appearances in all competitions for Lopetegui’s team, scoring five goals.
United’s engine room was bolstered with the arrival of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer. However, the Red Devils had to sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich in January to add depth in the middle of the park.
The Old Trafford side’s bench strength has left a lot to be desired. Fred and Scott McTominay have been in and out of the team since Erik ten Hag’s arrival.
Therefore, we could evidently do with more quality in the midfield. Neves has proven his qualities over the years at Wolves and has vast experience in the English top flight.
