Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer has been left impressed by Lisandro Martinez, who he claims “would die on the pitch”.

The Argentina international signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 from Ajax. Since then, the 25-year-old has been a pivotal member of the Old Trafford side’s success under Erik ten Hag.

Speaking to German outlet Bild (h/t Manchester Evening News), the Austrian, who joined United on loan in January from Bayern Munich, has hailed Martinez’s desire to win games.

“Our world champion Lisandro Martinez would die on the pitch. For him, winning is everything, he is a defender in every sense of the word. A brutal winner and leader.”

Martinez has formed the backbone of the Red Devils’ defence for the majority of the season. The centre-back’s aggression and tenacity have made him an instant fan favourite at the Old Trafford side.

The 25-year-old has formed a brilliant partnership with Raphael Varane. In the current campaign, the two World Cup winners have brought some much-needed stability to our backline.

Unfortunately, the Argentine’s debut season came to an abrupt end after picking up an injury against Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. He made 45 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring one goal.

Martinez’s will and desire are something that all of United’s players now need to take inspiration from. A club like the Old Trafford side deserves to be at the top of the footballing world.

Therefore, securing a place in the top four should be a priority for the Red Devils. Apart from the Premier League, we have the talent in the squad to go all the way in the UEL and FA Cup.
