Aston Villa join Manchester United in race for Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries
Premier League rivals Aston Villa have joined Manchester United in the race for Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries, according to TuttoMercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Holland international has been linked with a move to the Old Trafford side in the last few transfer windows. However, it looks like the Red Devils are focusing on his compatriot, Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong.
But United have got in touch with the Nerazzurri regarding the 27-year-old. To that end, the Red Devils could go back in for the defender next summer.
However, the Old Trafford side will have to compete with Unai Emery’s team to acquire Dumfries’ services. The Villans have ‘made contact’ with the Holland international as well.
Villa have been in fine form since parting ways with Steven Gerrard and appointing the former Villarreal and Arsenal head coach. The Lions are currently on a five-game win streak in the league and sit in sixth place in the table.
The Birmingham-based club have Matty Cash and Ashley Young in their ranks, capable of playing at right-back. It remains to be seen whether they will pull off a coup and get Dumfries.
The Holland international has been in fine form since moving to Inter in the summer of 2021. In the 2022 World Cup, the 27-year-old’s talent was on show for everyone to see.
At United, Diogo Dalot has been Erik ten Hag’s preferred option on the right-hand side of the defence. However, in recent weeks, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been handed a lot of opportunities after the Portugal international’s dip in form.
