Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez out for season and Rapahel Arane to miss a few weeks with injury
Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez will miss the remainder of the season after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his foot, while Raphael Varane is also out with an injury for a few weeks.
The Red Devils’ two defensive titans both had to leave the pitch before the end of the game against Sevilla in the Europa League. At half-time, the former Real Madrid star was substituted and the Argentine was stretchered off just before the end of the game.
In a statement released on the club’s official website, the Old Trafford side have confirmed the extent of the injuries suffered by Martinez and Varane.
“Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his foot.
“Lisandro’s defensive partner Raphael Varane was also substituted with an injury at half-time in the same game and is expected to be out for a few weeks.”
The 2022 World Cup winner is expected to make a full recovery and return for the start of the upcoming campaign. As a result, the 25-year-old’s debut season at United has come to a screeching halt.
Having signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 from Ajax, the Argentine has become a pivotal player for us in a short span of time. After a shaky start to life in Manchester, the centre-back bounced back admirably.
Martinez has become a fan favourite due to his aggression and tenacity. The 25-year-old has proved many of his naysayers wrong with his displays for the Old Trafford side.
The Argentine has formed a brilliant partnership with Varane at United. The former Real Madrid star has come into his own alongside the former Ajax centre-back.
Unfortunately, we will be without two of our most important players with the business end of the season upon us. However, the Red Devils have Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in their ranks as well.
