Marcel Sabitzer reflects on “rollercoaster” Manchester United vs Sevilla game

Manchester United star Marcel Sabitzer is at a loss for words and is unable to comprehend what transpired in the “rollercoaster” game against Sevilla.

The Old Trafford side welcomed the Andalusian club on Thursday (13 April) in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. In the opening 20 minutes, the Austria international scored a brace and gave the Red Devils an advantage. However, two own goals towards the end of the match saw the game end 2-2.

Speaking to BT Sport via Manchester Evening News, the 29-year-old is frustrated that the Manchester-based club did not kill off the fixture sooner.

“Yeah, I have problems finding the right words. like a rollercoaster game, playing a good first half, we had lots of chances. We had to finish the game off and at the end, it’s a draw, which is not what we wanted.”

United dominated most of the proceedings in the first half. We made a quick start in the game and had Sevilla hanging on for dear life for most of the match.

Sabitzer, who is on loan at the Old Trafford side from Bayern Munich, played in the number 10 position, with Bruno Fernandes dropping deep. The Portuguese gave the Austrian the assist for the first goal in the 14th minute.

Then, a few minutes later, Anthony Martial, who put in a brilliant performance against Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team, set up the midfielder for his brace.

The 29-year-old’s addition to the team in the January transfer window has paid off. In the last few weeks, the former RB Leipzig star has especially been thriving playing in a more attacking role.

Unfortunately, Sabitzer’s brace was not enough for us to win the fixture. Towards the end, things unravelled for United, with Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire unlucky to see the ball deflect off them and beat David de Gea in between the sticks.
