Future of Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer at Manchester United remains uncertain
Marcel Sabitzer, who joined Manchester United on loan from Bayern Munich in January, realises that his future at the Old Trafford side is uncertain.
The Austria international joined the Red Devils on a temporary move in the previous transfer window until the end of the season. However, the Manchester-based club do not have the option to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis.
Speaking to BILD (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 29-year-old knows that whatever happens in the future is out of his hands. But the former RB Leipzig star is determined to do his best for United.
“United made it clear that it was a project until the summer. Then we’ll see. Until then, I want to give everything here. It’s a loan deal without an option. In the summer, the situation will be evaluated.
“Of course my thoughts are on United, especially with the trust I get from Erik ten Hag – it’s very positive. But I’m not the only one who decides.”
Sabitzer’s addition has been key for the Red Devils. After Christin Eriksen picked up an injury in the FA Cup fourth round against Reading, he was sidelined for a considerable period.
In the Denmark international’s absence, the Bayern loanee has come in handy. He has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Old Trafford side, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
The Austrian signed for the Bavarians in the summer of 2021. However, the midfielder has been unable to break into the Bundesliga giants’ first team during his spell there.
However, Julian Nagelsmann has parted ways with the Allianz Arena side. Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has now taken charge of the German outfit, which could affect the 29-year-old’s future.
Sabitzer has mostly played in the double pivot at United. However, in recent fixtures, he has played in the number 10 position, with Bruno Fernandes dropping deep. The Austrian has thrived playing in a more attacking role.
