Bayern Munich drop out of race for Manchester United target and Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have dropped out of the race for Manchester United target Jeremie Frimpong, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, according to BILD (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Bavarians have ‘backed away’ from their interest in the Holland international. At the moment, the 22-year-old is being linked with a move to the Red Devils in the upcoming transfer window.
Erik ten Hag is looking to add competition in every position in the team next summer. To that end, the Old Trafford side are looking to acquire the services of the Manchester City academy graduate.
Frimpong joined Celtic from the Sky Blues to further his development. Subsequently, Leverkusen came knocking for the youngster’s signature in the winter window of 2021.
In the last few months, the Holland international has thrived at the Bay Arena side. In the current campaign, he has made 37 appearances in all competitions for the German outfit, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists.
Bayern have Benjamin Pavard as the first-choice right-back in their squad. Thomas Tuchel can also call upon Noussair Mazraoui and Josip Stanisic. In January, the Bavarians also got Joao Cancelo on loan.
As for United, Diogo Dalot has been Ten Hag’s preferred option on the right-hand side of the defence this season. The Portugal international has started in the majority of the Red Devils’ fixtures since the Dutch manager’s arrival.
But as of late, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has also been getting regular opportunities in the team. The 25-year-old has done well. However, the English national is still behind in the pecking order.
