Wolves ‘preparing’ new contract for Manchester United target Ruben Neves
Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) are ‘preparing’ to tie Manchester United target Ruben Neves down to a new contract, according to The Sun.
The Portugal international’s existing deal with the West Midlands club is set to expire at the end of next season. Over the last few months, the midfielder has been looking for a move away from the Molineux Stadium side.
However, Wolves are open to a last push to secure Neves’ future and not let him leave for cheap. At the moment, interest in the 26-year-old from European teams is fading, which may lead him to put pen to paper on fresh terms.
But the midfielder’s wage demands are a stumbling block for Julen Lopetegui’s team. The Portuguese is also ready to wait until the West Midlands club can secure safety in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have tried to sign Neves previously. Apart from the Old Trafford side, English top-flight rivals Arsenal were also previously monitoring the midfielder’s situation at the Molineux Stadium side.
Under former Wolves manager Bruno Lage, the Portuguese wanted to end his stint at the West Midlands club. Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also eyeing the 26-year-old.
At the moment, United have the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in their midfield ranks. However, when either of them are missing, Fred and Scott McTominay have been unable to fill the void adequately.
The Red Devils also seemingly lack depth in the middle of the park. We needed to sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich to add much-needed numbers to our engine room.

Therefore, Neves would evidently be a welcome addition to the Old Trafford side’s squad. However, it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old will sign a new contract at Wolves.
