Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong ‘keen’ on Manchester United transfer amidst Barcelona interest
Jeremie Frimpong, who currently plays for Bayern Leverkusen, is ‘keen’ on a transfer to Manchester United amidst interest from Barcelona, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Holland national is on the Red Devils’ radar. To that end, the Old Trafford side have met with his agents and held a discussion regarding the full-back.
However, nothing is advanced as of yet. But apart from being in touch with the Manchester-based club, the 22-year-old’s representative also contacted Bayern Munich and the Blaugrana.
Frimpong is enjoying a stellar campaign in the Bundesliga with the Bay Arena side. Under Xai Alonso, the Holland national has taken his game to the next level.
The 22-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Manchester City. Subsequently, the right-back had a decent spell in Scotland with Celtic before Leverkusen came calling for his signature.
Now, this season, Frimpong’s attacking talent has come to the fore. In 37 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit, the Holland national has scored eight goals and provided nine assists.
At United, Diogo Dalot has been Erik ten Hag’s first choice at right-back in the current campaign. The Portugal international’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024 (transfermarkt). But the Holland national’s pursuit does not change the Red Devils’ plans to offer the former FC Porto star a new long-term deal.
The Dutch manager also has Aaron Wan-Bissaka at his disposal for now. While the English national has made his way into the gaffer’s plans in recent weeks, the defender has still been unable to retain his place in the pecking order.
