Manchester United get a boost as Bayern chief admits defeat in the Harry Kane transfer race
As quoted by Mirror (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United get a transfer boost as Bayern Munich chief Dr Michael Diederich admits that they won’t have the money to sign Harry Kane.
A few weeks ago, Manchester Evening News reported that United boss Erik ten Hag has earmarked the Tottenham Hotspur talisman as his primary target for the coming summer window. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is insistent on not selling to a direct rival in the Premier League.
The England captain’s contract in north London expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). Bayern are yet to replace Robert Lewandowski, although Eric Choupo-Moting is doing a good job this season. They have been linked with Kane before.
But, Diederich feels that the striker will be out of their price range. Here’s what he said (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“I don’t rule anything out but can we afford such a transfer and do we want such a transfer? We have to keep an eye on our profitability.”
So, if Bayern are out of the equation and Kane wants to leave in the summer, Levy may not have many options but to sell him to a direct rival like United. The other potential suitor is Chelsea, who are also keeping an eye on the striker.
For Levy, it might be slightly better if he sells the 29-year-old to the Red Devils rather than to a fellow London club.
If United manage to complete this signature in the summer, it could be a massive coup for ten Hag and his staff. They can build a team around Kane, who is just a prolific striker at the peak of his powers.

At his age, the England captain can offer 2-3 years of top-quality service to the team. United can take advantage of that and build a title-winning team in that period of time.
