Luke Shaw ruled out; Christian Eriksen set to be back in squad for Manchester United vs Everton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has ruled out the involvement of Luke Shaw against Everton on Saturday (8 April) at home, but Christian Eriksen is set to be back in the squad.

The England international was substituted in our previous fixture against, the 1-0 win over Brentford, with an apparent injury. In the 37th minute of the match, the 27-year-old was replaced by Tyrell Malaia.

As for Erisken, he has been on the sidelines for a considerable period. The Denmark international has not been in action for the Red Devils since the 3-0 FA Cup fourth-round win versus Reading.

Thankfully, the midfielder resumed squad training this week. Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag revealed the left-back’s absence. However, the 31-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur star is in contention to be in the matchday squad.

“Luke Shaw is not available for tomorrow and we have to see how we progress in the coming week. The good news is Christian Eriksen is back in training and he will be back in the squad tomorrow.”

Shaw has been a pivotal player for the gaffer in the current campaign. At the start of the season, the English national lost his place in the team for a few matches. However, the defender quickly regained his place in the pecking order.

Apart from being impressive at left-back, the former Ajax head coach has also deployed the former Southampton star in a central defensive position at times. The 27-year-old has held his own even in an unnatural role.

As for Eriksen, he signed for United in the summer of 2022 as a free agent. The Danish national immediately became a pivotal player in Ten Hag’s plans at the Old Trafford side.

However, with the midfielder on the sidelines in recent months, the Red Devils have struggled a bit to unlock opposition defences. It remains to be seen whether the 31-year-old will feature against Everton.
